Metronome Minute — Steve Beauregard
In the Metronome Minute, we ask members of the Metronome team a few questions about their role, expertise, and what interests them about the cryptocurrency.
This week, feature Steve Beauregard, chief revenue officer of Bloq, Inc. and co-founder and chairman of GoCoin. Steve is one of the first prominent thought leaders, investors, and voices in the cryptocurrency industry, with a wealth of experience in payments and partnerships.
What is your role on the Metronome team?
Metronome was developed by BloqLabs as a new foundational cryptocurrency. In my role at Bloq, I saw Metronome as more of a company capabilities showcase creating foundational money layers for consumers and institutions alike. Largely, my role deals with exploring partnerships and use cases of Metronome for various industries.
What excites you most about Metronome?
Since the initial supply auction, Metronome has behaved exactly as designed. This makes me very optimistic about future use cases. In particular, as founder and former CEO of GoCoin, I can see many use cases in crypto payments especially for lower-cost goods and services where Bitcoin mining fees have been know to get prohibitively high.
What do you think have been the greatest challenges in bringing this cryptocurrency to life?
By far the long pole in the tent is building a community that cares and engages with the technology. It’s one thing to have a community that gets excited about the price of a token and the prospect of making money, it’s far harder to build a following of tech enthusiast that are excited about building products and solutions never before possible with these new tokens. This is why you’ll see me, and other team members, traveling to conferences and hosting meetups. We’re even publishing community-building resources on Metronome.io to help others expand the Metronome community.
What do you hope will be the most-used application of Metronome?
I’ve always been fascinated by payments, and hope that Metronome will serve the role of cryptocurrency payments — utilizing both mass pay and subscriptions. Subscription based content and services is a huge industry, and something that I wish GoCoin could have engaged with in a more meaningful way.
I love paying for things with crypto, and I think that Metronome can make that a better experience.
Where were you when the initial supply auction started and ended?
At the moment Metronome launched, I was with my wife, daughter and son (our other daughter unfortunately was not home) outside on the top floor balcony of our home in Santa Monica, popping a bottle of champagne and toasting to the launch.
When the initial supply auction sold out, I was sitting at my computer a few feet inside the balcony door.
